The Elbe Trail – Poděbrady - Nymburk

1. The confluence of the Elbe and Cidlina Rivers - the town of Podebrady

The whole section of about 3,900m runs on a cycleway with an asphalt cover where the tree roots cause problems by damaging it.

2. The town of Podebrady, the bridge Prazska – the town of Nymburk, the bridge Kolinska (approx. 9km)
A) Right riverbank:

This section of about 9,200m is also a cycleway with an asphalt cover, running below the Podebrady Castle, under the road bridge and towards the town of Velke Zbozi, further on to the town of Nymburk where the cyclists cross the Mrlina River near a local power plant. Since this section was built in the nineties, it has already been significantly damaged by the roots of the full-grown poplars. Therefore, more than 4,500m of the cycleway were reconstructed in 2008, with the total cost of CZK 7.5 mill.

B) Left riverbank:

The paved asphalt cycleway numbered 019 runs from Podebrady to Nymburk on the left riverbank. In Podebrady, the cycleway gets over the river on a footbridge and follows via Kovanice to sports grounds in Nymburk. The cyclists need to cross a lock chamber on the Elbe River using the stairs and ride on along the right riverbank bellow the city walls under a road bridge. The cycleway is 4,500m long in the cadastre of Nymburk and 3,900m in the cadastre of Podebrady. The total cost amounted to CZK 14 mill.

3. Nymburk

In 2007, the town of Nymburk completed the construction of the 3m wide left-bank cycleway which runs across the entire cadastral area and is covered with bitumen. The section starts at the intersection of the Zalabska and Na Belidlech Streets near the Hrabalka Villa, and ends where the 57th river kilometer is, near the local allotment gardens, with a link to a local road which leads to the Komarno farmstead.

4. Nymburk – Drahelice
The cycleway is about 2,600m long here, underpasses a road bridge – this is the spot where an asphalt cover is replaced with an interlocking paving, and a footbridge as well. Then it continues with a narrow sidewalk with a sign Cyclists, Dismount Your Bikes!, followed by a 5m wide paved road along a playground towards a railway bridge. When it gets over the bridge, the cycleway narrows again to a 3m wide one with an asphalt cover which takes the cyclists to a playground in Drahelice.
