Pardubice:
Design principles & concrete measures

The measure implemented project includes minor improvements of both the signposts and the horizontal road markings with dedicated cycle lanes as the key ones. The preparation and the discussion of given measures were funded from the project fundings, specifically a feasibility study aimed at integration measures in major urban streets, as well as a detailed technical documentation developed for selected roads. The subsequent implementation of given measures was funded from the city budget. Dedicated cycle lanes were marked on Jahn Street, Bubenik Street, Dasicka Street, while contra-flow cycling is now permitted in one-way streets Stross Street and Smil Street. New bus lanes and cycle lanes were also marked on the Republic Square. Other measures have been prepared within the project and now are waiting to be implemented: cycle lanes on Dasicka Street, 17th November Street, Jan Palach Street, etc.

Bike lanes to increase safety

The rule of 5-year sustainability proved to be of a great barrier in realization of bike lanes. Some decision makers were afraid that the pilot investment will not work well. Therefor the realization of bike lanes was covered from the city budget/not the CMB budget.

In Pardubice 680m of bicycle lanes, 450m of pictographic lanes and 265m of contraflow of cyclist in one way streets was realized so far. All these measures were prepared in CMB project. Now these measures are being evaluated by the University of Pardubice. We obtained some positive feedback from cyclists (also several complains from the residents who must accustom for new parking scheme in one way streets).
