Minor measures to support cycling in Olomouc

The town of Olomouc has been implementing a long-term plan for minor pro-cycling measures with a significant impact on urban cycling development. Based on the Czech laws, especially the Technical Conditions 179 Designing Communications for Cyclists, the municipality focuses on:

  1. protective, or reserved bike lanes
  2. pedestrian pathway with entry permitted for cyclists
  3. two-way streets for cyclists
  4. pedestrian zone with permitted cycling in a housing estate
  5. zone in a park with preferred pedestrian transport and permitted cycling

 

The list of implemented measures can serve as an inspiration for other Czech towns and cities.

1. Protective, or reserved bike lanes

Where has the measure already been implemented? Almost every one-way street is a two-way street for cyclists in Olomouc.



4. Pedestrian zone with permitted cycling in a housing estate

 Where has the measure already been implemented? In Olomouc, the pedestrian zone with permitted cycling has been extending since 1991.

Where has the measure already been implemented? Olomouc is well known for allowing cyclists riding in parks on dedicated paths.
