The Lhota Cycleway was opened in 2014 with the aim to find urgently a solution for ensuring the safety of cyclists on the busy road II/611 between the towns of Sadská and Poděbrady. The newly built, separated (thus safer) cycleway has also contributed to increased cycling modal share in everyday commuting to school, work or shopping. Now, the cycling locals can take full advantage of the flat terrain in their region. In addition, the cycleway is used as a space for leisure-time activities, especially due to its direct and almost smooth connection to the long-distance Greenways Elbe cycle route.
The cycleway goes along the main road II/611, with slight local deviations; it complies with logical connections to local roads in every town or village, based on the needs of its users.
The concrete finish on the cycleway (the first ever in Bohemia, by the way) goes well with four steel-concrete bridges - although each one is technically different, all four have the same design, colour and other details, copied on other elements too, such as on the information board, which intensifies the overall uniformity.
The concrete cycleway and bridges are perfect for comfortable cycling and roller skating. The width, technical design, signs and overall arrangements provide maximum safety for all users. Moreover, a unique bridge over a railway track helps cyclists cross the track safely.
